Old Friends

Edifas and Coda are old friends. Edifas is an elder Treean who has a very special fondness for his old friend Coda, an elf-dog. He has a surprise hidden behind his back for his faithful companion, and best friend, and Coda isn't fooled for one minute. She knows Edifas always hides his gifts, but not for long, and she waits patiently for her reward. This figurative sculpture was created in memory of my faithful companion and best friend as well. I lost her one week ago to the ravages of time and age, and I miss her dearly. She was more than a pet, she was a confidant, and a shoulder I cried on more than once. She was there for me for nearly thirteen years, and she will remain forever in my heart. Farewell old girl, and may we one day meet again.

Edifas' head, hands and feet were sculpted from polymer clay over a wire armature, and his body is soft and poseable. Great attention to detail has been given to his skin tones while maintaining the natural translucence of the clay. His hair and eyebrows are made from tussah, or vegetarian silk. His clothes are hand sewn cotton and linen and the buttons are hand made from polymer clay. His boots are sculpted from polymer clay as well and painted and distressed to look old and worn.

Coda is sculpted from polymer clay and painted with heat set oils for a durable finish. The base is store bought, but was hand finished in a mahogany stain and polyurethane sealant, by myself.

Edifas can stand on his own, but the base provides a rod to hold him firmly in place. Coda can be removed from the base.

Edifas is 10 inches tall and Coda is 3 1/2 inches to the top of her nose.
